Park Guide

The primary purpose of this position is to provide guide services to visitors. The work involves giving talks, interpreting natural and historic features, answering questions, guiding tours, and providing miscellaneous services to visitors. This position is located in the Selma To Montgomery National Historic Trail. You will present informational talks, guided tours, and demonstrations, following a prescribed outline, to various audiences to inform or educate. You will initiate verbal communication with customers in a variety of settings to inform, educate, and/or guide. You will educate customers regarding rules, regulations, and safety concerns to gain compliance. You will conduct limited research for educational purposes to verify obscure facts and answer inquiries. You will operate standard office equipment other than computers (such as telephone, fax, photocopier, calculator) to accomplish work. To qualify for Park Guide, GS-0090-05, grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
Experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Experience educating customers regarding rules, regulations, and safety concerns to gain compliance. Experience serving as a front-line representative of the organization to greet customers and answer questions. Experience assisting in making interpretive products (such as preparing labels or signs) or natural, historical, or cultural programs, publications or exhibits. Experience initiating verbal communication with customers in a variety of settings to inform, educate, and/or guide:
You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successfully completed four years of study above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as American history, science,public speaking, parks and recreation, education or communications. -OR- Equivalent combination of experience and education.Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
